We are now in the VUCA era. It is said that we live in an age of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. We are currently facing problems of the global environment, war and conflicts, energy and food supplies that we have never anticipated.

It is in these times, we should recognize the importance of SDGs(Sustainable Development Goals).

SDGs consist of Preamble, Declaration, 17 Goals, 169 Targets and 232 Indicators.

Preamble states the essential concepts of SDGs, 5p’s(people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership) and the relationship between economy, society and environment(biosphere).

SDGs are goals to be achieved by 2030, the basic philosophy and principles have been in place since before SDGs started and will be carried over into post SDGs era after 2030. In this sense, it is important to understand SDGs from Preamble.

To realize a society where no one left behind, we must reset the conventional way of thinking and proceed with a completely new way of thinking.

We need to make revolutionary change the status quo under the concept of SDGs.

And all topics related to the SDGs are issues of the future. It's a problem for young people and for children who are yet to be born. What we really must think about is the future, the world 10, 20, 30, 50, 100 years from now.

In the business world, we should think social value will be evaluated in addition to economic value.

DeepTech is a business that input technology, output innovation, outcome social value along with economic value and bring social impact.

More and more such new businesses, startups must be born.

Now, in this sense, which nation should we pay the most attention to?

In my opinion, the answer is India.

India is a nation that with over 25 million births per year, more than 50% of the population under the age of 25, and 1.4 billion total population, became number one in the world.

India is the nation that 75,000 startups are currently in operation, the second largest startup nation after the United States.

On the other hand, Japan is not a very huge land nation. However, advanced science and technology development is progressing, and Japanese people excel in establishing manufacturing processes that are precisely and highly quality-controlled to commercialize them.

Japan has the fastest aging society in the world. The number of aged people continue to increase year by year. But such aged people are guaranteed a comfortable life, the well-being is improved, the health and welfare systems are enhanced, and the system is established.

Indeed, Japan is the most developed nation for solving aging and the other social problems, second only to some North European nations.

If Japan's strengths and India's strengths are well intertwined, we can work in good harmony.

Historically, India and Japan have had a good relationship. During Modi-Abe era, the relations between India and Japan have developed dramatically and have reached the present.

Now we must look to new developments in the India-Japan relationship.

To bring social impact, we need to create destructive innovation through unconventional ideas.

That may not be something a single nation can do. It can only be realized through cooperation and collaboration with other nations and international organizations. Bilateral cooperation is not enough, and trilateral or multilateral cooperation is essential.

This year, India leads the G20, Japan the G7, and two nations is exploring synergies in multilateral efforts to tackle the global challenges. India is conducting as leader of Global South. India and Japan should be at the core of establishing various frameworks for cooperation among other nations.

The various social problems that SDGs aim to achieve are not problems that can be solved in a single nation, but are global problems. We need to collaborate more to solve these problems. The relationship between India and Japan is not only for the benefit of India and Indian people, for the benefit of Japan and Japanese people, but the benefit of global society.

Promoting India-Japan relationship should not be the final goal.

We should move forward with dreamy future goal much further ahead.

India-Japan relationship should be the first step to achieve sustainable society, all human well-being and planetary health.

I believe that this is the new path and new horizon for India-Japan relations that we are pioneering.
